Camera Samples Lumia 620

As promised, here are a few camera samples taken on the low end Windows Phone 8, the Lumia 620 (unboxing).
The Lumia 620 sports a 5 MP camera (no Carl Zeiss branding) and offers 720p Video recording.

For only 250.- CHF it is one of the most affordable Windows Phones out there.
But in comparison to the even cheaper Lumia 520, the 620 offers all the sensors you need (e.g. compass), a brighter screen, LED flash, etc...

Long story short, the Lumia 620 comes without the compromises and limitations of the Lumia 520 for only 50.- CHF more.

Scenario

The shots were taken in sunny weather and at good light. A scenario where most phones today shouldn't have any problems.
So lets see if that's true for the Lumia 620!

Comparison note
I took about 2-4 pictures of every scene and selected the best one to upload here.

I also uploaded the same scene taken on the Nokia 808 PureView (set to "scene mode" in 5 MP).
This is merely to give you an impression of how the scene looked in real life... it is not meant to be a 808 vs 620 comparison.

Comparing the 808 vs Lumia 620 would not make much sense ;)

Cropped pic's, where is the detail?
Here is an example of what happens when you crop/zoom in on one of the pictures above.

Cat
More difficult to compare, you can't tell a cat to sit still :)
But I think its a good example of a real life situation.

Conclusion

Well, the pictures speak for itself.
The Lumia 620 does very well here, considering its market place and target group.

Even though the 808 was set to the same resolution, the 620 can't keep up when it comes to details.
Zooming in on the pictures reveals the lack of details and the colours are more vivid than they should be in my opinion.

It could also be a little bit faster. Half the pictures I've taken of the cat were nothing more than a blurry mess... but in the end it did the job on took some decent ones after all.

The camera is not good enough for serious photography. But for a budget phone, you get a decent camera and the shots are more than good enough to be posted on social networks or simply for the sake of capturing a nice memory.

    1. thanks :)

well, putting the 808 into creative mode, using 8MP and combining the macro mode with the losless zoom would have put the 808 much further ahead than it already is in this comparison.
even the (for some people) more attractive vivid colours could be achieved easily in the 808's settings...

there is simply no other phone that can match the 808 camera (regardless of what nokia is claiming in their lumia 92x advertisment).

but anyway, i really like the 620.
its my favourite windows phone so far!
